Turkish and Japanese Prime Ministers Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Shinzo Abe signed an agreement yesterday to start negotiations on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Sinop.
Erdogan reminded that Turkey construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant by Russia in Mersin was the first nuclear construction deal Turkey had made.
Abe noted that Japan was responsible for informing the world about the lessons learned from the Fukushima accident. Erdogan said that chances for an accident were one in a million.
Mitsubishi (Japan) and Areva (France) are expected to build the new power plant. Turkey and Japan signed an agreement on investments worth $22 billion for realization of the project in May.
